After dinner, this is where our family heads... to the basement. To our family room.
Overall, I'm pleased with how this space looks and feels. It has great natural lighting for a basement & a nice layout. I am ready to do a little more to the space though.
Slowly, I have started adding things to transform it and liven it up.
Some of the things that I do like about the space are the 10ft ceilings (not normally standard in basements), the rug, the redone rocking chair, the wall art mirror and the DIY chalkboard (moved from here).
You can't see it very well, but my chalkboard message is still up from August... my son's first day of preschool. I should probably change that soon.
Here is a pic, so you can get an idea of how big it actually is.
And my little man, he was so excited for school. Growing up too fast...
Back to the basement.
Our fireplace (it's a wood burning one, and we love it!) is in the corner...
And our television is on the wall to the right of it.
It's mounted up there, so therefore we do not have a media cabinet. Instead, a little desk and chair sit there for our kiddos to color at, or read, or eat a snack. It's practical, for now, but it's not permanent.
I actually wish that we had a media center for our television. I absolutely love ours upstairs.
Plus, I need shelves to decorate and a way to bring in color!
We shall see how this room evolves. It's definitely on the front burner because of how much time we are spending down there. This girl needs some decorating excitement otherwise she will be headed for the upstairs living room - one of the only spaces in our home that feels "finished" and cozy!
1. Add color to brighten it up.
2. Find furniture for under the television - ideally an old dresser to refinish.
3. Find bookshelves or have them built.
5. Paint the door, like I mentioned here.
6. Redecorate the fireplace mantle. (What you see up there now is just leftover stuff :/ )
