You all have seen your fair share of our living room and office. I've posted about them a lot, so for today I thought it would be a nice change of pace to share our kitchen. It's a work in progress, but there are several things that I love about it. Including my three new stools!
Warning: Our kitchen is VERY bright, all day long. You will notice in the pictures, I'm sure.
We have super dark cabinets. And while they look black, they are actually a deep deep brown. Pretty much black though. Our hardwoods are also on the darker side. I'm smitten over the way the cabinets and the floors contrast, so I was on the hunt for some stools that would contrast with both. This really limited my options.
Prior to the purchase of these stools, I bought some really affordable saddle stools from Walmart. Well, they contrasted with the cabinetry, just not the floors. And they seemed a bit wobbly too. Totally could have been my fault during the building process, but I wanted something a bit more durable.
And when the holiday sales hit, I saw these babies online for a good price and offered in a set of three. NEVER before that had I seen them offered in a group of three, only two or four. Seemed like it was meant to be. Plus, these stools contrast with both the floor and the cabinets... and give a little wink and nod to the brushed nickel cabinet hardware.
Now for a few details like our pretty kitchen faucet.
And the three mini topiary plants for my tiny window sill. I found them at Goodwill for $2 a piece.
Here is a close up of our back splash... and one of my first Silhouette projects (the vinyl "snacks" label). I keep a few snacks stashed in the white container. It's just easier to have a few close by for when the boys need a quick something rather than going over to the pantry to riffle around. I keep a variety in there and then fill it up when it gets low. Oh yeah, and I'm addicted to stripes. Evidence found in my $6 bowl which I currently use to hold our Halos. What happened to Cuties?
I have some dreams to customize the space somewhere down the road. I'd like to paint the walls a light grey because I believe it will make the back splash stand out and more of a feature. And I'd love to update the pendant lights, as well as the white electrical outlet on the end of the island.
It's pretty good as is though... Especially with those new stools!
*Details: I purchased these stools from Overstock.com for $99.99 (a set of 2 with a bonus stool), but have seen them recently for as low as $89.99. Here is a link to the counter height stool. Here is a link to the bar height stool. I think the price is a bargain for the quality! They come preassembled and they are stackable. And so far very durable!
