The Makeup Box

One thing that I love to do in my down time is watch my recorded DVR shows. It's what I do when I need to let my brain rest and just veg out for a while. I don't record many, but I will admit that some of my guilty pleasure television shows include Keeping Up With The Kardashians and The Bachelor. While I am a fan of "reality" shows, I'm also a huge fan of the "learn something" shows as I like to call them, so I'll watch shows like Nate Berkus and Kelsey's Essentials. Sabrina Soto gave some organizing tips regarding make-up storage on one of the Nate shows that I watched recently. She is brilliant, so I tend to heed a lot of her advice.

I was proud of myself for already doing one of her suggested tips, which is how I store my makeup brushes. For quite sometime I have been storing them in a simple drinking glass on my bathroom counter. I've been meaning to get some beads/marbles/vase filler for it, but it just hasn't happened yet. It's very efficient storing my brushes this way because they are handy when I need them, and seeing them all of the time reminds me to clean them.

The second tip that was mentioned was to store makeup in a decorative box. Not all of your makeup, just the items that you use on a daily basis. Again, easy to grab, but also super easy to "clean up" if you just put the items back in the box after each use. Wala! Clean counters AND a pretty decorative box...

So, I browsed some of my favorite stores online just to see what was available and what price range I was looking at. I found a few boxes that would work at target, and they were reasonably priced. With that in mind I happened to drop into Goodwill yesterday to kill a bit of time. Lo and behold the beautiful boxes that I had seen from Target were now discounted and waiting for me on the shelves. You know what they say... if it's meant to be...  I bought one box for $3 (regularly $12.99).

They had a few different options, but I really wanted the black striped one because I felt it would go best with my bathroom. It was slightly damaged on the top, but I was ok with that. I figured if it ended up bothering me too much I could just DIY it away. The imperfection was within the material, so it could easily be hidden with some high gloss spray paint.

Instead of being left out on my counter like before...

... it's now tucked away in my pretty "makeup box" and I'm smitten!
